Baghdad At Sunrise is based on my experiences as a brigade commander in Iraq in 2003-2004. The book is a record of what happened in the first critical year after U.S. forces seized Baghdad in the spring of 2003 and describes the operations of the 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division during its first deployment to Iraq, from the sweltering, chaotic summer after the collapse of Saddam Hussein’s regime to the transfer of sovereignty to an interim Iraqi government a year later.
